SPSK does not require purification because Sukuk are Sharia-compliant by definition

The purification factors are determined using a methodology developed by ShariaPortfolio in accordance with the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) guidelines.

Purification is distinct from zakat. Typically, zakat paid to a charity is determined on one’s overall wealth. These purification factors are specifically meant to cover the dividend income paid by equity securities that may be derived from haram sources.

ShariaPortfolio does not pay or deduct the purification amounts from your account(s) as this may create undesirable tax implications. We encourage you to seek the counsel of your local Imam for advice on where and how to pay the purification amount.

Our Income Purification Calculator helps you determine the amount of investment income derived from non-permissible sources that should be donated to charity to maintain ethical compliance. 

The calculator quantifies the portion of earnings from investments that may have unintentionally come from activities deemed impermissible according to religious or ethical guidelines.

Please note purification numbers are provided approximately 2.5 months after quarter closing – allowing all fund companies to report final numbers and data reconciliation.
